New Muppet film
Well I have been thinking a lot lately about this new Muppet film titled "The Cheapest Muppet Movie Ever Made" and of-course I have my hopes and fears for it. Hope is, that it will reinvigorate Muppet fans across the world with corny old tyme jokes and interesting characters that rely on love, hope and madness to get through their troubles. My fear is exactly the opposite. I don't think Muppets translate today, matter of fact I know they do not. This movie from what I have read is being considered a "reboot" of the Muppet franchise, why? Let me backup, my kids don't like Muppets. I think I'm a good authoritative figure on what kids like, being that I have a 7 year old, 6 year old, 4 year old and a 2 year old. None of my kids will sit thorough the first 15 minutes of "The Dark Crystal" and it breaks my heart. Let alone a classic like "The Muppets Take Manhattan" One of my all time favorites, but I guess Peoples is peoples, is not car, is peoples. Don't get me wrong, my kids are not the kind that are "dialed in", they have limited access to computers and personal entertainment devices and TV. The simple fact is as a child these days once you have tasted the amazing works that computer animated characters bring to the screen you can't go back. It's the hard truth that no matter how hard we try our children will never fall in love with puppets again. I suppose, if your kids live in a real vacuum where they may never be exposed to a Pixar film you can make it happen, but a practical everyday family with kids...Muppets...not gunna happen. Not at the level it needs to. Will I take my kids to this move? Yes. Will they sit though it? Prob not. Will they want the DVD? No. Will they want the toys? No. IF a reboot, then why not just ditch the Puppets altogether and go 3d animation? Only a small % of die-hards will care, I GUARANTEE the parents taking their REAL kids to the film WILL NOT CARE. Ok, you can now shoot me for suggesting to 3d animate the Muppets. But as a film maker and father, it is a better direction to go.
